Re: SAAB Fighter

Here are photos of the prelim plan that I'm using to check the buildability of this puppy.

Re: SAAB Fighter

A fair idea, Howard! Bigger does generally fly better. 1:16 would put it at about 30 inches (I'm lousy at converting these scales even tho I studied aircraft design  ). I've started building the easy parts - stab and rudders - to let them fully "cure" as I've found that letting the f...

SAAB Fighter

An aircraft that has long intrigued me is the SAAB J/A 21 pusher fighter that was further developed into Sweden's first jet fighter. I was aware that Pres Bruning had built a rubber powered version sometime around 2004 and wrote to him if a plan was available ( assumed it was his design). A few week...

Re: Applying Tissue

I find that either way works. It also affects the final finish whether one wants to emulate gloss (metal) or a flat (fabric or camo) subject. Covering fuzzy side in does seem to stick better to the surface due to the better "tooth" and depends on the adhesive used. It is noticeable when &q...

Re: Rubber Speed Event

This should prove to be interesting! I know that the speed class was popular up thru the '50s and Outerzone has a couple of plans IIRC (I know that I have one or two in my collection).

Re: West Wings 24" Spitfire Mk.22

A big brush fire in the area where I do most of my Free Flight flying and testing has put a "hold" on further activity. Normal rc flying is not affected tho the fire nearly reached the parking area, so I am not totally restricted :| . SEVEN tank trucks were involved in the containment whic...

Re: West Wings 24" Spitfire Mk.22

My earlier plan was to make up the radiators from balsa - the plastic ones are >1.2gm apiece - but the weight savings came at an unacceptable loss of robustness and those that I deemed "robust enough" saved only 0.1 gram raw. The beast does use the protuberances to land on, so I did end up...

Re: West Wings 24" Spitfire Mk.22

Trying to test glide a model Spitfire is a comedy of errors - there's just NO way to get a good grip on the thing in the proper place :-?. Popped the spinner loose trying >:(. Decided to heck with power-off gliding and stuffed a four-strand 3/32nd five gram (braided) motor in it and hand wound 100 t...

Re: Tow-line (Vintage, Nos.)

Beautiful! Where are the champs being held this year? The weather has, for me, been unbearable. MUCH too hot (even for most of the younger guys in the club), or much too windy - or both - so I still haven't been able to get my oldies into the air properly. At least the crops are cut and the temps ha...
