Re: Indoor Flying with the O.F.F.C.

The resumed schedule of the O.F.F.C. monthly contests continues. Due to maintenance in the gym the contest was held February 2nd. I had the embarrassment of my brand new Minnow refusing to fly. I borrowed a spare Minnow from Dave Gee, who brought several of various vintages, and, at least, put some ...

Re: Went flying...

Well, this was embarrassing! I took my Minnow to the contest and it would not ROG. Yes, it was Ground Hog Day but that was still no excuse. Minnows are quite reliable fliers and I had built one straight off the plans that wouldn't fly...Or so I thought. Several people looked at it and, although they...

Re: Went flying...

Went to the Sepulveda Basin this morning to test some models. It was a beautiful clear, dry morning only there was only one other flier there. I brought the Ascender, Skinny Bomber, Side Effect, Giant NoCal Beaufighter and a Wright Amount of Wrong with the new stabilizer design. Except for the Wrigh...

Re: Indoor Flying with the O.F.F.C.

The annual Martin Luther King Day fun fly and contest held by the Black Sheep Exhibition Squadron and O.F.F.C., The King Fling, will not be held this year. The field at the Stonehurst Recreation Center has been graded for reseeding and is fenced off. Next year.

Re: Side Effect

I flew the second and third designs at the O.F.F.C. ROG Unlimited contest this morning. I didn't have my revised Side Effect there since I had not finished covering the wing. While they were not competitive against indoor models half their weight (I finished 6th.) I was able to make them to turn ins...

Re: Indoor Flying with the O.F.F.C.

YES, the OFFC is back in business as an indoor flying club. The City Parks Department has let us back into the Stonehurst Rec Center gym...but with a few conditions. We are officially known to the City as the “All Year Model Airplane Club. We are open to anyone, not just senior Black Sheep members (...

Re: Side Effect

Here is the third design to come from the discussion between myself and Dave Gee. The working name of this one is Ascender but Dave thinks I should name it after something sharp. I've drawn a printed skins similar to the one that I did for the Side Effect. It flies as expected the only trim required...

Re: Howard Littman Model Aircraft - hjlmodels.com

I did get to fly the Beaufighter a couple of times at the Boys & Girls Club gym in Pacoima after the Black Sheep Pearl Harbor NoCal contest. The gym is slightly larger than Stonehurst but you have to be careful to avoid the ventilation fan ("The Sikorsky") in the middle of the room. St...

Re: Side Effect

Here is another result of the discussion of new postal contest models that I had with Dave Gee. The working name of this is Meow. Meow_1_Smaller.jpg The first flights were indoor at Stonehurst. Once I had established the turn for the room (53 feet wide) and found out how much rubber it needed to get...

Re: Went flying...

Last Sunday, I went to the Grassy Knoll (Sepulveda Basin) with several models. The weather was beautiful, clear, mid 70's (F) and no wind. Everything flew and I didn't break anything. I dug my Old School, A-frame pusher out of my old models bin the night before and decided to bring it along. It is a...
