1/20 EDF Buccaneer

Postby Monz » Sun Mar 12, 2017 11:05 pm

Started the design for this in Photoshop a few weeks ago and now at the trace and cut stage.

I'm off to the South Coast for a few days for work so taking a little 'down time' travel box along to occupy me in the hotels. I'll stop at the local Hobbycraft and buy an A4 cutting mat to go in the box in the morning.

Holy cow!---don't tease us. What's the span? What's the power? FF or (choke) RC? Whats the building material---balsa and stringers? Foam? What 3 views did you use? When will soccer in the US be called football?

Made a start on the structure. Slow going as I'm working it out as I go.

Ludo,
Monz says she started this "a few weeks ago" in the opening message, and another week is nearly over. Normally, the model would have been completed and flown by now...

Monz, I am interested in how you "size" your EDF models. I assume you start with the fans and all the associated gear on your workbench first, in a sense. So you have that weight you know you will have to lift plus the structure. So what is your thinking after that point?

It would have, but work keeps getting in the way ;) Might get two or three stringers in tonight before bed, or I might just sit and stare at it over some cider and then go to bed

Tom, this is my first EDF model. I had the size of the fan, so kinda sized it till the nacelles fitted the fan, then a bit more for some fat. Then I looked at the weight of the systems and guestimated the weight of the structure I'd need to work towards. I do this with all my models really, thumbsuck, guestimate, bit of luck, I'm getting better at it
