Forum Archive rebuild progress

Post by Site Admin (Dave) »

Hi guys,
This topic is just to keep all of you in the loop as to what is being done behind the scenes with the Forum and the progress we are making.

I have successfully merged the 3 restarts of the YaBB forum from 2003 to 2008. 8-)

I then worked on a conversion script to change the YaBB2 forum into an SMF2 Forum (Simple Machines Forum) and after almost 2 weeks of work have finally done it! 8-)

I will now attempt to convert it from SMF2 to phpBB3 (There is no direct conversion scripts available to go from YaBB to phpBB). Once completed (notice my enthusiastic optimism here? ;) ), I can merge it with this current Forum.

I am trying to contact Tim the Inspector if anyone can help. Also, anyone else who was an Administrator on the last Forum can you please contact me.

Finally finished tweaking everything I could find to get the Archive stable and complete this morning. :)
It is now running on the latest version of YaBB and ready for conversion to phpBB.

Hi guys,
when I finished up merging and updating the archives - I lost all view totals for the topics! They were nearly all reset back to zero.

So, after a hefty two weeks and some serious elbow grease on 7939 files, I have restored all the post counts to their original glory! I'm feeling pretty good about that victory. 8-)

You can see the tests I did on the first two topics to restore the counts. Once they were working I did all the rest.

 Hey Joe!
I'm just sitting on the sidelines eating popcorn (and trying to search out old SFA files). David is doing all of the dirty work but thanks for the kudos :) !

Yes, the forum Archives have been fully combined, repaired, restored, updated, corrected and checked. :)

All that awaits now is the arrival of a swag of missing images that didn't make it to me first try round.

Unfortunately, I have had trouble getting a reply about getting them sent to me ever since. :(

Fantastic to see the SFA site online again! I thought it had been lost forever with no back-ups. Even managed to re-use my old nick :) Looking forward to seeing the old archives again. Great effort, Dave
